    The Memorial Cancer Institute’s breast cancer program will be expanded with a 19,000-square-foot building near Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

    The South Broward Hospital District approved the $3.65 million project on April 23. Memorial spokeswoman Kerting Baldwin said it would combine surgical oncology, medical oncology, chemotherapy and infusion therapy under one roof.

    Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood has become the first facility in Broward County with full approval to perform the lifesaving surgery. A waiting list should be in place by May, said Enrique Gongora, the cardiac surgeon who will lead the program.

    Memorial Healthcare saw its revenue jump 51 percent for its fiscal third quarter, which happened to include the first month that Affordable Care Act exchange plans went into effect.

    The Hollywood-based public health system earned $31.5 million on revenue of $381.3 million for the quarter ended Jan. 31, according to a report to its bondholders. That’s up from earnings of $20.8 million on revenue of $370.7 million in the same period a year ago.
