Aurelio M. Fernandez, FACHE, Named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Memorial Healthcare System

Aurelio M. Fernandez, FACHE, has been named the new executive vice president and chief operating officer for Memorial Healthcare System, the public, non-profit healthcare provider serving South Broward County.  Fernandez now oversees all hospital operations and other related outpatient services.

Fernandez’s previous position was as chief executive officer of Memorial Hospital Miramar. Fernandez has more than 35 years experience in healthcare and brings exceptional knowledge in the acute care setting and hospital operations in both private and public management. Prior to joining Memorial, Fernandez was with Tenet Healthcare Systems in a variety of positions, including chief executive officer for Florida Medical Center and Hialeah Hospital.

Throughout his career, Fernandez has worked in numerous leadership positions in healthcare. One of those positions was as executive director of Pal-Med Health Services, a physician hospital partnership with emphasis in physician practice management and disease specific programs. Fernandez’s career has been also centered on finances. He’s been credited for establishing automated systems that improve revenues and cash flow and for improving product lines and services in hospitals.

Fernandez earned a bachelors degree in business administration a master’s degree in health services administration from Florida International University. Fernandez remains active in numerous professional and civic organizations. He currently serves on the Board of the  South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
